Blaster Care

Dryers and Blasters are one of the most essential pieces of equipment in your salon, so it is important you maintain them properly.

Dryers and Blasters are ‘sucking in’ the air from your salon. Therefore, any hair or debris will be sucked into the machine. It is vital you maintain the filters and ensure it is always in place when using the machine.

Ensure you use the correct filter. Filters are all different and have been chosen by the manufacturer for optimum air intake.

If your dryer or blasters have brushes and you smell burning, turn off the machine IMMEDIATELY. Do not continue use. Worn brushes will cause irreversible damage to the motor, meaning it cannot be repaired and it will have to be replaced

Servicing and Backups

Have your equipment serviced by a professionally annually, just like your car they need their own version of a MOT.

Always have a back up machine for emergencies!

Clipper Care

For groomers, clippers and trimmers are your holy grail and caring for them is important as they are spending their hard-earned money to buy nice equipment for their kits. It is vital that they are kept clean to ensure longevity and clean, crisp lines in our furry friend’s coat.

Cleaning your blades regularly whether its with a small brush, toothbrush or blasting your dryer over it. This is recommended to get rid of any build up or debris between the blades and cutler which can affect its performance if not cleaned.

GP Clipper Maintenance Kit

Disinfecting your blades is so important as your blade goes through a lot and pick up a lot of dirt, coolant spray and other things that will cause build up and residue on the blade.
You may also use, Professional Klip Well which is another great product to disinfect and lubricate the blade.

Pair this with Groom Professional clipper oil which will lubricate the blade and prevent them from overheating. Even better, it is suitable for ALL makes of clippers, so you really are getting your value for money!
How to use: Make sure to hold your clipper down when applying any solution to the blades so it doesn’t run onto the clipper motor. You may also want to remove the blade from the clipper and place the blades in the disinfectant solution, however it is not recommended to leave this overnight, as you don’t want to leave any product for a long period time on your blade.

Pair this with Groom Professional clipper oil which will lubricate the blade and prevent them from overheating. Even better, it is suitable for ALL makes of clippers, so you really are getting your value for money!

How to use: Hold clipper facing down, to ensure no oil will run into the clipper motor. Simply apply a light layer of oil on the top end of the ‘teeth’ of the blade and wipe away any excess oil with a light, lint cloth.

When your blades begin to heat up it is important to allow them to cool. We recommend to try remove the blades from the clipper, set them on a tile and replace them with another blade. A coolant spray is also a great alternative to this problem, Groom Professional 4 in 1 clipper spray will cool, lubricate, clean, and disinfect the clipper blades while they are being used, perfect for busy days in the salon.

Simply apply the spray to the top end of the blade and make sure to keep it away from the cutting edge and make sure you wipe away any excess. This is to ensure that your motor is not having to work with too much friction and heat as well as keeping the blade maintained.

It is important to know your clipper parts as you will be able to know if the blade drive is on your clippers. If the end of the blade drive is rounded it probably needs changing otherwise you risk your blades just popping off whilst you’re using them.

Blade Cutter

Firstly, there are two types of blades: Ceramic and Steel, however when it comes to the cutter you can only sharpen steel cutters.

How to change your ceramic blade- turn your blade over so the back end is facing you, make sure the new cutter is facing the correct way up. The blades should be pointing down, line up the new cutter alongside the old one and slowly begin to push against it eventually the old cutter will slide up and the new one will slot in.

Scissor Care

A pair of scissors is very personal, these tools become an extension of your hands therefore its essential they are the right fit for you which will ensure you are achieving top results.

It important to look past the exterior and focus on metal quality, cutting performance, and handling. Ensure the fit and weight of the scissor is comfortable

Storing

Store your scissors safely as they need to be kept close if they are not being used- a knock or bump to your blade can not only damage them but also knock the alignment off causing unnecessary friction which can blunt your blades.
Never use a magnet to store or hang your scissors as this can affect the magnetism of the scissor. A scissor cylinder is great as it is easy to use, they will keep your scissors well maintained and safe as well as keeping your workstation clean.

Oiling

Oil Regularly will stop produce, or moisture and bacteria building up while protecting the metal from rusting. We recommend using a soft, clean towel after each use to prevent debris and build-up.
After cleaning and drying your scissors, you should open them and add 1-2 drops of oil to the joints to keep it’s smooth performance while encouraging longevity.

Tension

Check the tension before use, if the tension is too tight, you’ll impose unnecessary wear on your scissors which may make them harder to work with leading to hand or wrist injuries. To test the tension, you should lift one of the blades to a 90- degree angle and let it drop.
If the scissor is the correct tension the blade should only fall to the 2/3 closed position. If the blade falls and closes completely then the tension is too loose and if it falls and barely closes at all then your tension is too tight. To adjust your tension either to tighten or loosen you will need to slightly adjust the screw located on your scissor.
