Drying
Once you wash your dog and have let them do the inevitable
‘Shakes’ all over you and/or your house, the next logical step
in the process is to dry them. Some dogs won’t mind being
dried, while others would rather roll around in the beds,
sofas and any soft furnishing than be dried properly.
Like everything else with home grooming, it is so important
to get them used to the noises and sensations that come with
being dried – it makes them feel more at ease and means you
don’t have to wrestle them every time.

It can seem like a lot to have all of this in your kit, but we can almost guarantee you will need it all at one point or another. A couple of these key products should be all you need, and it’s better to have it and not need it, as need it and not have it!

Importance of Shampoos & Conditioners
Everyone with dogs will probably agree that most pets would rather skip bath time! Bath time is essential for pets as it helps to clean the coat and remove dust and mud. Washing can also help to remove any allergens such as pollen, that can be picked up whilst running carefree in the grass. Plus, we all agree that dog cuddles are one of the best things in the world, right? And aren’t they so much better when the coat is smelling gorgeous and feeling soft?!

Why do pets even need a cologne?
You might be looking at our perfume and cologne range,
thinking “what on earth would my pup do with a perfume?” and
we get it; Unless your pet is frequently accompanying you on a
night out, a cologne might seem like a strange addition to
your home grooming needs.
But rest assured, there are plenty of benefits to using a
perfume or cologne and it all starts with the glaringly
obvious… amazing smells!
Pets are no strangers to messy antics and not-so-nice
smells, as a result, it can feel like you’re constantly
bathing, scrubbing or just holding your nose around them.
Perfumes and colognes are perfect for between baths, with a
range of fragrances from sweet and fruity to sophisticated
and fancy, there’s everything for every pooch, plus, they’ll
leave your home smelling great too, so what’s not to love!
Clipper, Trimmers
Similarly to us, dogs need a good haircut to keep the hair
healthy and strong, as well as keeping them looking as cute as
ever. We normally recommend grooming your dog every 5-6 weeks,
but this can depend on the hair type and the speed of growth.
Clipping your dog can seem like a mammoth task, but we
promise it isn’t! Getting your puppy used to the noises and
sensations of grooming as early as possible will make the
world of difference and will make it so much easier for you
to groom your pet from the comfort of your home.
There are a few tools you will need to groom your pooch,
depending on the area you are tackling.

Scissors
For areas where you want to achieve a precise shape or to thin
out the hair, scissors will be the way to go. There are a few
different options to pick from when buying scissors, depending
on what you need them for. For most pet grooming,
a pair of straight, curved and thinning scissors will steer
you in the right direction for definite! If your pooch is
smaller or get very nervous by the noise of clippers or
trimmers, you could use scissors around the full body, it
just may take a little bit longer!
Trust us, we know this can sound like information overload
with this, but bear with us we will keep it as concise as
possible! Most scissors will come with a few different
length variants, and this simply means how much hair you
want to take off with each ‘snip’. If your dog is bigger,
you may want to go for the longer length scissors (7.5” or
above), if you have a smaller pooch you may want to go for a
scissor range that has a 5” option, but for most standard
sized dogs either a 6” or 7” would be perfect. Each of the
ranges listed below have a few different options so you can
really tailor this to you and your pet.
To start your home grooming, we would recommend having 3
types of scissors in your kit – straight, curved and
thinners.

Dematting
Simply put, a mat in a dog’s coat is a collection of smaller knots
and tangles. Mats can cut off the air flow in your dog's hair and
can trap moisture and debris, which can cause irritation and sores
on your 4-legged friend.
Some dogs have coats that are higher maintenance and more
vulnerable to matting. Any long hair can get matting, but
certain breeds and coat types are more prone to matting, such as
Poodles, Doodles, Cocker Spaniels, Bishon, ShihTzu and any
variation of these breeds. Dogs with long silky coats such as
Yorkies can also get matted as well as double coated dogs.
The main thing to do when you see a matt is not to panic! It can
happen very easily depending on the coat type and does not mean
that you have done anything wrong! Imagine trying to brush out
dreadlocks in your own hair - It would not be comfortable! The
dematting process involves taking small sections of hair at a
time and working to release the mats. We have some tools and
coat care products to help you with this also! Some mats may
fall out right away, while others may take time and patience to
brush out. When used properly, these tools remove the mats
without leaving bald spots or significantly shorter fur behind.
Groom Professional Matt Breaker
We know it looks scary, but we promise it isn’t! The blades are sharp and serrated, so definitely don’t leave this out for small hands or paws to reach for. This matt breaker will help to save as much as the healthy coat as possible, while gently reaching in to remove the matt. To use the product, hold the fur at the base of the matt to ensure you don’t pull the skin or cause any irritation or your dog to huff with you – that’s the worst! Run the matt breaker through the coat, using flicking motions in the same direction as the hair growth to help the matt release itself.

They have double head brushes for your larger dogs (Newfoundlands, St. Bernards etc), or your single brush for more small-medium sized breeds and is great for getting those matts and tangles around the legs and hygiene areas.

Chris Christensen T-Rake
The Chris Christensen T-Rake creates a Drag N Drop method to dematting. Basically, the brush handle is heavier so you can set the brush into the coat, and it will naturally start to drop through the coat itself, meaning less wrist fatigue for you – yay! This also makes it more comfortable for your pooch if you are not using the weight of your hand to pull the hair out. The brush has staggered teeth meaning it is able to attach itself to the matt to really pull them out, while saving as much of the healthy coat as possible.

Deshedding
The reality is that all dogs shed year-round very much like we do, the hair is constantly falling out and re-growing. The shedding phase is when hair falls out and is replaced by new hair growth. De shedding is the removal of a dog’s loose undercoat. The idea is to remove the hair before it lands on your clothes, your sofa and your bed, but it also makes your dog more comfortable which is the main thing! (Along with extending the lifespan of your hoover). You can use multiple tools and methods to de-shed your pet. De-shedding should be done regularly, and once you’re on a good schedule, the effects will be more noticeable.
Groom Professional Shed Stopper
Sometimes known as a ‘Furminator’, this handy tool makes deshedding those short and medium coats an absolute breeze. This grips the loose undercoat of your Pugs, Jack Russell’s and Labradors alike and removes the hair that would otherwise be all over your house! The important thing to note about deshedding tools is that they do not remove any healthy hair growing in the coat, they only remove the loose undercoat. The curved edge makes it more comfortable for a dogs natural shape so they should feel as if they are being brushed lightly and the hair won’t be tugged.

Just a quick spritz or two will have your pet (and most likely the room you’re in), smelling fabulous.
Towels
We know it might sound silly, but the right towel at the start of the process can make things so much easier! Microfibre towels will quickly grab any water off the coat and is up to 10 times more absorbent than our normal human towels. This helps to speed up your drying process, and quickly eliminates the ‘Wet Dog’ smell we all know and maybe don’t love so much. We have a range of towels available for your pooch depending on their size and coat type.
Dryers
Don’t tell us, we already know there is a lot of different
types of dryers out there, and a lot of information as to
which one may be best for your pet. It is important to take
into consideration how much space you have when drying your
dog, your budget, the size of your dog and their temperament
when choosing which dryer may be best for you!
We know it can be overwhelming looking at dryers and
deciding what your pooch needs – what voltage do I go for?
Do I need 1 motor or 2? Is it a dryer, blaster or
combi-machine I need? We are here to answer those questions
for you!
There are 3 main types of dryers we have available –
Blasters, Dryers and Combi-Machines.

Dryers
Combination
Fast Dri
Probably one of the key parts to drying the coat if you ask
any groomer, would be to use a drying spray/solution. We have
a revolutionary spray that is loved and used by groomers all
over the world!
So many groomers tell us they can dry dogs in half the time, and they can squeeze in extra grooms during their day – all thanks so the amazing Fast Dri Spray!
Groom Professional Water Magnet Towel
These soft, thick towels are ideal to help dry your dog after a bath or a walk. They are affordable so you can keep multiple in your grooming kit, they are soft on the dog’s skin, and they are fast absorbing towels ideal for home use. They are machine washable and tumble dryer safe which makes things easier for you too, what isn’t to like!
Entry
Pet Therapy Microfibre
These towels are designed to dramatically reduce drying time of your doggo! Perfect to use straight from the bath or when you come in from a walk, you simply set the towel along the back of your pooch and ‘squeeze’, this will collect the bulk water lying on the coat. Machine washable and tumble dryer safe makes this towel another winner in our eyes!

Show Tech Dry Dude
These towels are not only ADORABLE, but they really do work amazingly well! They have an elasticated neckline and is worn by your furbaby after bathing or after their walk. Your dog’s feet slide into the pockets to keep it in place, and they can walk around the house in their own little dressing gowns.
Elite
Blasters
This is essentially a powerful machine that gets the bulk of the water off the coat as quickly as possible. Blasters are very powerful and can either come with or without heat. Blasters normally come with a long snake-like hose, and a few different attachments to use depending on the coat type.
Wahl Powerdry
This is as close to a human hairdryer as you will get with a little bit less heat than a human hairdryer. The Wahl Hand Dryer is great if your pet is teeny tiny or if they absolutely would not tolerate a more powerful blaster. This handy little dryer features 3 heat settings, and 2 speed settings meaning you can tailor it to each of your dogs.
Entry
Groom Pet 010 Single Motor Blaster
The Groom Pet blaster is ideal for home use as it is a single motor blaster which is perfect for home use and features a heat on/off setting so you are not blasting your dog with cold air. We wouldn’t tolerate our hair being dried with a cold hairdryer, so why should our pooches? There is a speed dial on the blaster like the volume dial on a car radio, so you can adjust it to make it as powerful as you need. The single motor means the blaster isn’t too loud so it shouldn’t upset your dogs and the heat makes it nice and comfortable for them!
Expert
Blo i400 Dual Blaster
For your larger or thicker-haired pets, we would normally recommend a double-motor blaster. It works in the exact same way as a single-motor blaster but half of the time! This Blo i400 model has a speed dial like the Groom Pet 010 blaster, so you can turn it down for more nervous pets or bump up the speed to dry the coat in record time! The Blo i400 doesn’t feature a heat switch, so the temperature of the air will depend on the environment where you use your dryer. Professional groomers love this blaster and for larger or thicker coated pets, we are sure you’ll love it too!
Elite
Dryers
A dryer is normally a machine that comes on a stand, and a static arm so you don’t have to hold it while drying. The purpose of this is so you can use both of your hands to be combing or brushing the dog’s coat. Think of it as one of those egg shape dryers the hairdresser might place on your own head sometimes! They are generally higher heat and lower power machines compared to a blaster, and are great for those coat types that need a little bit more care or maintenance such as a Poodle, Bichon Frise, Afghan hound etc. A dryer wouldn’t be ideal to take the bulk of the water out of the coat, but once this is done a dryer is the next step! Depending on the coat type, some people will only need a blaster and won’t need a finishing dryer for their pet.
Luxor LX-3000 Finishing Dryer
The LX-3000 dryer comes with a stand, so you can have both of your hands free to groom or comb through the coat. This dryer has both a speed dial and a heat dial, so you really can tailor it to the dog you are drying! It also features smart technology which remembers the setting you use most often and will default to this each time you turn it on - how handy! The unique design on the stand means it fits under a table easily, so you can pop your dog on the table, bring the dryer as close to the table as you need and fluff dry your dog hands free!
Entry
Blo i900 Finishing Dryer
Probably one of our best-selling Dryers, the Blo i900 is functional and looks great in a grooming setup. A variable speed and heat switch means you can have maximum control when drying your pooch! The dryer features some anti-static technology, so your doggo’s hair will be free flowing and static free. The stand for the Blo i900 is adjustable so you can change it depending on the height of your dog to reduce the need for you to bend like a Quaver to move around them and get them dried which is a massive bonus for pet owners!

Simpsons Supajet Finishing Dryer
One of the most popular dryers on the market is the prestigious Simpsons Supajet. With 2 heat settings and 1 speed setting this is one of the best money can buy. A firm favourite with professional groomers as well, so you know it is good and will stand the test of time with your pets.
Elite
Combination Machines
As the name suggests, this is a combination of both a dryer and a blaster. They will normally come with the option to use the snake shaped hose to dry, then the finishing arm to finish your groom and to fluff the coat.
Luxor LX-1000 Dryer/Blaster
The LX-1000 may be small but definitely packs a punch in terms of a combination machine. It features 1 motor and a variable speed controller and an on/off switch for the heat means you have everything you need! It comes with a flexible hose for blasting, and you then purchase the additional stand and drying arm you need for your finishing dry separately.
Entry
Blo i300 Dryer/Blaster
This dryer comes equipped with everything you need to blast the coat, and to finish dry. The flexible hose, static drying arm and stand are all included with this variable speed and temperature dryer. The Blo i300 is a great option for people starting out on their grooming journey as it has 1 motor, so allows you to get used to how to manoeuvre it to achieve the results you need and shouldn’t be too noisy for your fur baby’s ears.
Expert
Blo i600 Dryer/Blaster
Basically the same as the Blo i300 dryer blaster, but with 2 motors meaning double the power! Both motors are variable speed and heat meaning you can turn it up to its highest speed setting to dry even the fluffiest of coats with ease. This dryer features ionic capabilities, which basically means it dries the hair with less damage and helps keep the shine of the coat intact.
Elite
Fast Dri Spray
The spray works by dramatically reducing drying time without affecting the natural structure and build up of the hair or leaving a sticky residue. All you do is towel dry your dog, give them a couple of spritz of the Fast Dri spray all over the body, and use your dryer/blaster to completely dry the coat. The unique spray increases the hair’s natural ability to repel water and helps to maximise the power of your dryer/blaster.

Happy Hoodie
Does your dog hate the noise of the dryer? We have the perfect solution, the colourful and functional Happy Hoodies. They work by muffling the sound of dryers to help keep your dog calm and can help to soak in moisture and assist in drying around the ears and head. They have an adjustable band to make it fit almost every dog breed and come with 2 in a pack, so you can wash one and still have another one on hand!

Dog Health
You’ve probably guessed it by now, that most things humans need, dogs will also need. That includes hygiene products to help keep their ears perked, teeth gleaming, eyes sparkling and their paws perfect! It can seem like a lot to have all of this in your kit, but we can almost guarantee you will need it all at one point or another. A couple of these key products should be all you need, and it’s better to have it and not need it, as need it and not have it!
Ear Care
To make sure your dogs can hear you shout their name for years and years, there are a few really good ear care products we recommend to keep them free of dirt, build up or bacteria. If you notice your dog scratching their ears more than normal, or moving away when you pet their ears it may be a tell-tale sign they need something to help soothe them.
Oral Care
Shiny teeth are a tell-tale sign of a happy and healthy pupper, so we want to keep them gleaming and their breath fresh so we can get those adorable kisses we all love! Plaque can easily build on a dog’s teeth, so it is important to keep an eye on it and to upkeep their dental schedule as dental issues are some of the biggest causes of pet owner vet bills! Again it is important to introduce your dog to oral care from an early age. Using a toothbrush in their mouth with no product to get them used to the sensation of their teeth being cleaned, then introducing puppy safe products after 12+ weeks so you don’t have a battle on your hands when they are older.
Eye Care
Whether your pooch has big blue eyes or tiny brown eyes, eye hygiene is important for them all! Obviously, their eyes are as sensitive as ours, so great care should be taken when putting product around the eyes. Tear stains are common in most dogs so cleaning should be part of your weekly routine with your pet.
Nail Care
Most dogs will naturally file their own nails down while out walking on hard surfaces, and it is important to keep the nails short, so they don’t potentially scratch you when they jump up for a cuddle or hurt themselves if the nails begin to push back on their paws. A good way of finding out if your dog’s nails are too long to hold their paw flat on the palm of your hand. If the nail touches your hand, they may be a little bit on the long side, or you may hear them clicking along the hard surfaces in your home.
Paw Care
Your dog uses their paws for so many different reasons – the most obvious one is to get from A to B, but also to play, investigate new things and show affection. There is nothing more wholesome than the sound of little paws pitter pattering around your home, so we need to make sure they are kept healthy and clean.
Wahl Easy Ear Cleaner
Aloe Vera, Eucalyptus and Camphor are all packed into this product to help soothe the ear of any irritations and effectively removes dirt and bacteria build ups, while also discouraging ear mites.
Groom Professional Ear Wash
Available in 3 different sized bottles, the Groom Professional Ear Wash keeps your pooches’ ears squeaky clean. Without drying the ear, this effectively reduces the bacteria growth that can cause ear infections. A fresh minty smell left behind, and your pet will be from any ear irritations!
PetCare Finger Toothbrush Tub
This pack of finger toothbrushes will be your best friend when it comes to cleaning your dogs teeth!
Tropiclean Clean Teeth Gel
One of the best oral care products on the market, this gel works by breaking down plaque and tartar on the teeth. It also kills bacteria and germs that cause bad breath and is safe for use on cats too!
Tropiclean Fresh Breath Water Additive
Does your dog simply hate you going near their mouths with toothbrushes, gels or anything that isn’t treats? We have a perfect solution! This Tropiclean Fresh Breath Water Additive is literally as simple as the title suggests. Brushing the teeth would always be the ideal method to clean them, but we totally understand that some dogs just won’t tolerate it. We don’t want our dogs to fear or be stressed in their own homes, so if you aren’t winning the tooth brushing battle, this additive is perfect.
Earthbath Eye Wipes
These wipes are a fast and convenient way to keep the area round your doggo’s eyes free of tear stains, dirt and debris. Fragrance free to avoid irritation and safe for any dog over 6 weeks, this is a great product to keep their face and eyes bright and beaming.
GP Fresh No More Tears
This cleansing solution removes any stains around your dog’s eyes and face. It is naturally derived and formulated to penetrate deep into the hair follicle to remove any debris or dirt.
Spa Facial Scrub
This product packs a punch! The spa facial scrub is a mild yet concentrated foaming cleanser that soothes and hydrates. A lasting fresh scent of blueberry and vanilla won’t sting the eyes and is great for all skin types and for pets of all ages. Most grooming salons will use this in their grooming routine, so you know it is tried and tested with the professionals, and easy for use at home.
Dog’s nails are a little bit different to humans as they have what is known as the ‘Quick’ inside the nail close to the skin which is a blood vessel. It is super important when trimming their nails to go very slowly and only cut about 1mm at a time to avoid potentially hitting the Quick and causing your dog’s nail to bleed. If your unsure, consult your vet on the best way to clip the nails at home.
Groom Professional Nail Clippers
Available in either small or large, these nail clippers are made from tough steel to trim even the thickest of nails. They also have a guard and safety lock, so you don’t accidentally take too much of the nail off at once and hit the Quick.
Mars Nail Clippers
The Mars Nail clippers are a veterinary quality nail clipper that comes complete with a guide, safety lock and heavy-duty plastic handle. The stainless-steel blades are easy to clean and are heat-treated for optimum cutting action clip after clip!
Andis Nail Grinder
Some dogs don’t like the pressure, or the noise of their nails being clipped, so for some pet’s a nail grinder may be the way to go. Like electric nail files you would see in a beauty salon, this nail grinder does what it says on the tin and grinds the nails down to a healthy length. Ultra-quiet and low vibrations in the motor means it shouldn’t cause discomfort to your doggo and comes with 2 different heads so you can choose the best one for your pet’s pretty paws.
Warren London Paw Sani-Scrub
The Sani-Scrub works to kill bacteria or germs found around the paws after a walk. It works amazingly as a pre-treatment before cutting the nails or bathing to remove debris from the paws. Have your dog feeling like they have had a spa treatment in their own home!
Warren London Paw & Nose Grapeseed Oil
This revitalising oil helps to remoisturise dry and cracked noses and paws. The oil is packed with vitamins to keep your pooches’ paws and nose looking glossy, moisturised and ready for their walks.
Pet Care Nose & Paw Balm
Dog’s paws are very vulnerable against the elements and the structure of the ground they are walking on which is why we never advise to walk your dogs in icy conditions or on especially warm days – imagine travelling around using your bare feet in extreme weathers, or walking over debris on the footpath, this is exactly what dogs feel. This helps deliver antiseptic and moisturising properties to keep their paws pads plump and free from cracks or itchy skin.
Home Salon Setup
If you want to take your home grooming to the next level, we have everything you need to get started! If grooming on the kitchen table and wrestling your pet in the shower/bath just isn’t working for you, we have lots of options to upgrade your setup and have the best equipment suited to your budget to comfortably groom your dog from home.

Tables
While grooming on the kitchen table or bench may be okay in the short term, but ideally, we would like to have a separate space to groom our dogs, so they recognise that it is their space, and they know what’s ahead of them! It is ideal to have the grooming space outside of their relaxing/sleeping space so they can retreat to that space if you need to take grooming breaks and keeping the environments separate will help to distinguish the difference in the dog’s own head, like when they go to a salon to be groomed vs being at home relaxing.
Baths
Depending on your dog’s activity levels and breed, they may need a bath anywhere from once a week to once every 3 months - there is no one size fits all rule for this. If wrestling your dog in the shower or bath at home isn’t working, we have some handy solutions to upgrade your kit to make sure it is your dog that is getting the bath, and not you!
Groom Professional Matterhorn Folding Table
These high quality folding tables are ideal for a home grooming set up as it can be popped up anywhere in the home!
