Brush, Wash & Clip

We know that finding the correct grooming equipment for your dog can be a complicated and overwhelming process! We have taken the work out of this for you, and we will break down each category and tell you why this is best for your 4-legged friend/family member!

Drying

Once you wash your dog and have let them do the inevitable ‘Shakes’ all over you and/or your house, the next logical step in the process is to dry them. Some dogs won’t mind being dried, while others would rather roll around in the beds, sofas and any soft furnishing than be dried properly.
Like everything else with home grooming, it is so important to get them used to the noises and sensations that come with being dried – it makes them feel more at ease and means you don’t have to wrestle them every time.

Dog Health

You’ve probably guessed it by now, that most things humans need, dogs will also need. That includes hygiene products to help keep their ears perked, teeth gleaming, eyes sparkling and their paws perfect! It can seem like a lot to have all of this in your kit, but we can almost guarantee you will need it all at one point or another. A couple of these key products should be all you need, and it’s better to have it and not need it, as need it and not have it!

Importance of Shampoos & Conditioners

Everyone with dogs will probably agree that most pets would rather skip bath time! Bath time is essential for pets as it helps to clean the coat and remove dust and mud. Washing can also help to remove any allergens such as pollen, that can be picked up whilst running carefree in the grass. Plus, we all agree that dog cuddles are one of the best things in the world, right? And aren’t they so much better when the coat is smelling gorgeous and feeling soft?!

Why do pets even need a cologne?

You might be looking at our perfume and cologne range, thinking “what on earth would my pup do with a perfume?” and we get it; Unless your pet is frequently accompanying you on a night out, a cologne might seem like a strange addition to your home grooming needs. But rest assured, there are plenty of benefits to using a perfume or cologne and it all starts with the glaringly obvious… amazing smells!
Pets are no strangers to messy antics and not-so-nice smells, as a result, it can feel like you’re constantly bathing, scrubbing or just holding your nose around them. Perfumes and colognes are perfect for between baths, with a range of fragrances from sweet and fruity to sophisticated and fancy, there’s everything for every pooch, plus, they’ll leave your home smelling great too, so what’s not to love!

Clipper, Trimmers

Similarly to us, dogs need a good haircut to keep the hair healthy and strong, as well as keeping them looking as cute as ever. We normally recommend grooming your dog every 5-6 weeks, but this can depend on the hair type and the speed of growth.

Clipping your dog can seem like a mammoth task, but we promise it isn’t! Getting your puppy used to the noises and sensations of grooming as early as possible will make the world of difference and will make it so much easier for you to groom your pet from the comfort of your home.
There are a few tools you will need to groom your pooch, depending on the area you are tackling.

Scissors

For areas where you want to achieve a precise shape or to thin out the hair, scissors will be the way to go. There are a few different options to pick from when buying scissors, depending on what you need them for. For most pet grooming, a pair of straight, curved and thinning scissors will steer you in the right direction for definite! If your pooch is smaller or get very nervous by the noise of clippers or trimmers, you could use scissors around the full body, it just may take a little bit longer!
Trust us, we know this can sound like information overload with this, but bear with us we will keep it as concise as possible! Most scissors will come with a few different length variants, and this simply means how much hair you want to take off with each ‘snip’. If your dog is bigger, you may want to go for the longer length scissors (7.5” or above), if you have a smaller pooch you may want to go for a scissor range that has a 5” option, but for most standard sized dogs either a 6” or 7” would be perfect. Each of the ranges listed below have a few different options so you can really tailor this to you and your pet.
To start your home grooming, we would recommend having 3 types of scissors in your kit – straight, curved and thinners.

Towels

We know it might sound silly, but the right towel at the start of the process can make things so much easier! Microfibre towels will quickly grab any water off the coat and is up to 10 times more absorbent than our normal human towels. This helps to speed up your drying process, and quickly eliminates the ‘Wet Dog’ smell we all know and maybe don’t love so much. We have a range of towels available for your pooch depending on their size and coat type.

Dryers

Don’t tell us, we already know there is a lot of different types of dryers out there, and a lot of information as to which one may be best for your pet. It is important to take into consideration how much space you have when drying your dog, your budget, the size of your dog and their temperament when choosing which dryer may be best for you!

We know it can be overwhelming looking at dryers and deciding what your pooch needs – what voltage do I go for? Do I need 1 motor or 2? Is it a dryer, blaster or combi-machine I need? We are here to answer those questions for you!

There are 3 main types of dryers we have available – Blasters, Dryers and Combi-Machines.

Fast Dri

Probably one of the key parts to drying the coat if you ask any groomer, would be to use a drying spray/solution. We have a revolutionary spray that is loved and used by groomers all over the world!

So many groomers tell us they can dry dogs in half the time, and they can squeeze in extra grooms during their day – all thanks so the amazing Fast Dri Spray!

Ear Care

To make sure your dogs can hear you shout their name for years and years, there are a few really good ear care products we recommend to keep them free of dirt, build up or bacteria. If you notice your dog scratching their ears more than normal, or moving away when you pet their ears it may be a tell-tale sign they need something to help soothe them.

Oral Care

Shiny teeth are a tell-tale sign of a happy and healthy pupper, so we want to keep them gleaming and their breath fresh so we can get those adorable kisses we all love! Plaque can easily build on a dog’s teeth, so it is important to keep an eye on it and to upkeep their dental schedule as dental issues are some of the biggest causes of pet owner vet bills! Again it is important to introduce your dog to oral care from an early age. Using a toothbrush in their mouth with no product to get them used to the sensation of their teeth being cleaned, then introducing puppy safe products after 12+ weeks so you don’t have a battle on your hands when they are older.

Eye Care

Whether your pooch has big blue eyes or tiny brown eyes, eye hygiene is important for them all! Obviously, their eyes are as sensitive as ours, so great care should be taken when putting product around the eyes. Tear stains are common in most dogs so cleaning should be part of your weekly routine with your pet.

Nail Care

Most dogs will naturally file their own nails down while out walking on hard surfaces, and it is important to keep the nails short, so they don’t potentially scratch you when they jump up for a cuddle or hurt themselves if the nails begin to push back on their paws. A good way of finding out if your dog’s nails are too long to hold their paw flat on the palm of your hand. If the nail touches your hand, they may be a little bit on the long side, or you may hear them clicking along the hard surfaces in your home.

Paw Care

Your dog uses their paws for so many different reasons – the most obvious one is to get from A to B, but also to play, investigate new things and show affection. There is nothing more wholesome than the sound of little paws pitter pattering around your home, so we need to make sure they are kept healthy and clean.

Home Salon Setup

If you want to take your home grooming to the next level, we have everything you need to get started! If grooming on the kitchen table and wrestling your pet in the shower/bath just isn’t working for you, we have lots of options to upgrade your setup and have the best equipment suited to your budget to comfortably groom your dog from home.

Baths

Tables

While grooming on the kitchen table or bench may be okay in the short term, but ideally, we would like to have a separate space to groom our dogs, so they recognise that it is their space, and they know what’s ahead of them! It is ideal to have the grooming space outside of their relaxing/sleeping space so they can retreat to that space if you need to take grooming breaks and keeping the environments separate will help to distinguish the difference in the dog’s own head, like when they go to a salon to be groomed vs being at home relaxing.

Baths

Depending on your dog’s activity levels and breed, they may need a bath anywhere from once a week to once every 3 months - there is no one size fits all rule for this. If wrestling your dog in the shower or bath at home isn’t working, we have some handy solutions to upgrade your kit to make sure it is your dog that is getting the bath, and not you!
