A guide to finding a dog grooming table that works for your salon

A quality grooming table is a must have for any salon and as such, choosing the right one can be a bit of a daunting task. Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be and whether it’s your first table or a significant upgrade, a little know-how can make this one of the most important investments you’ll make as a groomer.

There are a few things you’ll want to consider before getting your hands on a shiny new table, namely your budget, how often you’ll be using the table and the type of dogs you aim to groom.

Electric, Hydraulic or Static table?

The main options available are Electric, Hydraulic and Static tables, each have their own benefits and uses; with Hydraulic and Electric tables often being a mainstay in salons and static making fantastic backups or handy compact options for taking on the road or to a show.

What makes static tables so good for mobility is that they are generally lightweight and small with plenty of foldable options available. These portable dog grooming tables make great backups in the salon too and are often perfect for grooming smaller pets. There are also a few larger options that act as temporary backups for medium or larger sized dogs in the salon, should you need the extra workspace.

How stainless-steel Electric and Hydraulic tables often differ is that they are usually larger, heavier, and designed to stay put in your salon for the long haul. As well as this, they offer a lot of versatility when it comes to operating heights and the weight they can hold. Hydraulic tables usually function with a foot pump while an electric table might have pedals or a hand control; it’s always worth considering your power outlet locations and where you’re going to place our table within your salon!

I’m just starting out, which table should I go for?

A dog grooming table is an investment, and this is something you won’t want to overlook, especially if you aim to grow your business quickly and groom a variety of dogs without worrying about your work surfaces being too small or unsuitable for supporting larger dogs. For this reason, you’ll want at least one Electric or Hydraulic plus a static backup table, this way you can accept new clients with the confidence that you have the right equipment for the job.

The same rules apply for experienced groomers or long-time salon owners; depending on your business you may want a few of each type to make sure you have enough cover for everyday work, a mobile option for travelling and a backup or two if you find yourself in a tight spot.

Make sure it’s right for your salon

The final piece of advice we can give when table hunting is to make sure it suits your needs, style, and preferences. Each table has something unique that it can offer, whether you want to make sure larger/older dogs can hop on and off with ease, hate constantly having to stoop while you groom, or just prefer a particular design, there are plenty of options available and it’s well worth weighing these up before you dive in.
